What scanning a collection involves.
Still-image work is priced by the piece, so the number that matters is how many originals you actually have. Most people underestimate, because slides live in carousels and prints live in albums where nobody has ever counted them.
Counting before you call
A carousel
80 – 140
slides, depending on the type. Count carousels and you are most of the way there.
A shoebox of 4×6 prints
600 – 900
photographs, usually. Albums vary; count pages and multiply.
A negative sleeve page
≈ 35
frames. A single strip holds four to six.
Count containers, multiply, and you will be close enough for a useful quote. A rough number gives you a realistic range rather than a figure that changes later.
What moves the price.
Resolution, whether prints need removing from album pages, and whether anything needs colour recovery. Faded Kodachrome and Ektachrome can often be improved substantially, but it is per-image work and it is quoted as such, after we have seen the collection.
A $50.00 service minimum applies. If an order totals less, a line called “Minimum order adjustment” makes up the difference.
What you get back.
Image files on a flash drive for orders under 256 GB, or a hard drive above that. DVDs are $5 per disc for disc-only orders, or $15 per disc alongside a drive. Your originals return in the same shipment, in the order they arrived.
